The Himalayans are proud to announce a new partnership with Tyrannosaurus Records! The new release features a pre-Counting Crows era Adam Duritz (vocals), Dave Janusko (guitar and bass), Dan Jewett (lead guitar), Marty Jones (bass) and Chris Roldan (drums). The 17-track album comprises the complete recordings of The Himalayans including 3 songs produced by Counting Crows’ guitarist Dave Bryson, one of which is The Himalayans’ original version of “Round Here” (later covered by Counting Crows).

A couple of news items for you Himalayans fans. CD sales have been temporarily halted. This should last a month or two while we bring you something new and exciting (that's all I can say about it right now). The other item is that we at Himalayans headquarters would like to congratulate Adam Duritz on starting a new independent label with a real cool name: Tyrannosaurus Records. You only start a crazy venture like that if you really love music and are excited about the new, undiscovered talent out there - and that is the case here! Anyway, more to follow.

We are up to 30,000 hits since our launch in the summer of 2002. It's all been done through word of mouth so that's pretty cool.

Another big THANK YOU to all the fans of the Himalayans and Counting Crows whose undying interest and enthusiasm have helped keep this site going way longer than anyone ever thought possible! It has been over three years since we re-released the improved version of the CD and we are still going strong. Thanks!

ANNOUNCEMENT: Sophie Cheesemna is a Counting Crows and Himalayans fan that is very passionate about all aspects of music. She enjoys listening to and reading about all forms of music in an effort to learn more about the subject. Sophie also enjoys films and is a huge Kevin Spacey fan. Currently living in England, she is soon moving to London to study History and English Literature at the university level.
Like many Crows/Himalayans fans, Sophie enjoys asking questions about the bands and communicating with others who enjoy quality music and lyrics and can do so with intelligence and humor. She was also clever enough to help expand this simple questbook into a much more useful forum and it is for this reason that she is on your supreme commander and leader of the known universe... oh sorry, wrong speech, no but she is being granted the honorary title of administrator. In this role she will help facilitate discussions and help direct questions to me when needed. Sophie starts this week as soon as she returns from Tibet where she is learning the finer points of Yak handling and feeding. It is our wish to give something back to all the great and loyal Himalayan fans, to allow the fans to have input on the site and to offer a place for discussion and crosstalk about all things musical.

On 7/15/04 a new VH1 show called “True Spin” will air featuring the Counting Crows. The show looks at the stories behind the songs and will tell the real story behind “Mr. Jones.” In it Adam will talk about the old days, the Himalayans and, of course, our bass player and friend Marty! A clip of Sordid Humor will also be used.

CD UPDATE: That was close, almost got our CD restock order mixed up with that of the Himalayan Throat Singers. That would have surprised some of you! Anyway, we got that and a few other bugs straightened out and we are rolling along pretty much on schedule. Lots of hits to the website, so I know people are eagerly waiting for us to get this done! We are looking at about another week until we can start shipping, but if you don’t mind the wait, go ahead and start placing orders... a few already have. We have everything else in place and are prepared to hit the ground running as soon as we get the discs. So once again, thank you for your patience and rest assured that we have locked in a new production company and solved the re-supply problem. In the meantime, I recommend the Throat Singers’ latest, “Cut My Yak Some Slack, Jack.”

Okay, almost a decade of service with no interruptions and finally we got caught with no CDs in stock. I thank all of you for hanging in there during this down time and just wanted to report that we have the new discs on order and are working with a great new duplication house, Community Musician, that are helping us to avoid this problem in the future! Anyway, two weeks tops and we will be up and running... tell your friends. Same great quality and same great price: as always, it’s about the music.

Dan Jewett reporting. I went to the annual Counting Crows Christmas show at San Francisco’s The Warfield on Friday and man was it fun. Maybe it was something in the air but the band was relaxed and having a great time playing on their home turf. They kept doing encores with Adam telling the band, “we have plenty of time.” The Crows used every available minute until the club’s canned music finally came up; even then Adam remained on stage lip-syncing to the music for a few additional moments before saying good bye. It felt like you were hanging out at a Crows jam session and it was great. Later, backstage, I finally gave Adam the final version of the reformatted “She Likes the Weather” (which he helped initiate) and he told me that that was the most fun he has had on stage in quite a while. I also spoke to Dave Bryson who told me that he is enjoying a renewed enthusiasm for playing live as well. This is a great state for a band to be in given the amount of time they all have to spend doing this night after night and given how long they have been at it. Well the enthusiasm showed and I think Counting Crows fans in attendance for the six-night run felt they got a great present from their favorite band this year.
